A consultancy comes in. They interview executives. They build a maturity model. They deliver a roadmap. The roadmap is reasonable. It's based on industry benchmarks, peer analyses, and three quarters of best practices. The engagement ends. The deck enters a shared drive. Six months later it's still there, and the team is doing the same work the same way.
Every Joust engagement starts with someone showing us a deck like this. Sometimes the deck is good. Often it's right about what should change. The thing it never has is the system that delivers the change.
What we find
Strategy decks describe what should be true. They almost never describe how the work currently moves. Without that, every recommendation gets translated by whoever inherits it, and the translation favors what's easy to do, not what's correct to do. The deck becomes wallpaper.
The fix isn't another framework. It's mapping the actual workflow before recommending anything. We walk the process from input to output. We measure where time goes, where decisions stall, and which steps would actually change if the recommendation shipped. Then we attach a dollar figure to every change we suggest.
What we build
The same shape, every engagement. A workflow map produced from interviews with the people who do the work, not just the people who lead them. A short list of changes scored on impact and effort. A working prototype of the highest-impact one, built during the engagement, not after. Documentation that lets the client's team carry it forward.
The deliverable isn't the deck. The deliverable is the system the deck would have recommended if anyone had taken it past the strategy phase.
